36? Cruise Master, Cummins Diesel Pusher. About 45 miles East of Little Rock on I-40 headed west, the speed (cruise control set at MPH started slowly decreasing. I reset to 65 and again it slowly decreased several times. Then I stepped on the accelerator, and it went to the floor with the engine not responding. Coasted over to the shoulder with the engine idling. I crawled under the engine and found the cable bracket had broken in two. Called EMS and within an hour, Harvey from Harvey?s Garage in Des Arc, Ark (pop ~2000) shows up and quickly had us hooked up to the proper size wrecker and drive shaft disconnected. We followed him to his garage in the toad and it was now after PM. This was on a Friday night and the garage was only going to be open till noon on Sat. He offered to string a 20A 110V line to the RV, but it was still hot and that would not have been enough without the generator and I was low on Propane. He stated they would start at 7:30. So we traveled ~ miles to a motel. I arrived back at the garage at 8:00, Sat morning. They had the motorhome lifted 6? off the ground (wished I had the camera) and there was a mechanic under the engine area. I assumed he was busy removing the bracket. I am figuring they are going to tell me it is broken, Freightliner can?t get the part to them until next Tuesday, etc, etc. So I asked him how it was going, and he said he was almost finished!!! What!! He had removed the bracket, welded it and ground it back, and reinstalled it before AM. He was re-installing the drive shaft. I was gone by 8:30AM. They recommended getting a new bracket from Freightliner, which I am doing. Charged me $113. This is a small farming town garage, but they work on Big Trucks, RVs, tractors, and autos. Ever need help in that part of the country, they have earned my respect. Quicker than expected and very reasonable in cost
