This is a job for SealTech, a diagnostic test I had read about, which involves increasing air pressure inside the rig while swabbing the outside with a liquid that bubbles at leak sites?similar to finding a leak in a tire. I went online to the SealTech service locations site http://www.rvleaks.com/locations.htm, found Wilsonville OR Camping World. Camping World technician was using two leak detection systems, one of them SealTech, reported no leaks found on roof, one leak over a kitchen window at the rear of the rig. ?Roof membrane is thin?absorbing water rather than repelling.? The proposed solution was to remove the existing membrane and replace it with a new one. It would take 2 to 4 weeks to schedule the job and the rig would be in the shop for a week?at a cost of about $4,000. The four year old rig had a 12 year roof membrane warranty, so I sent photos and recommendations to the membrane manufacturer, got this reply:
I received your packet in the mail and have reviewed it. I will say that I do completely disagree with what the technician from Wilsonville OR said. It really sounds like since he couldn?t find where the water was coming in at he was just trying to make up something. The membrane is rubber ? it cannot absorb water, and from looking at your pictures your roof is not near thin enough for water to go through. The black layer is much thicker that the white layer, I?ve seen roofs that have completely lost the entire white layer and still the black is not thin enough to start leaking. Could you please find a new service center to inspect the roof and also to get an estimate for the repairs. Unfortunately we do not keep a list of service centers since we do allow unit owners to choose their own. I would just say no Camping Worlds, as I do find that they tend to recommend more work to be done than is necessary and at really high labor times and rates. I searched for and found another SealTech service center. Their technician found 8 leaks around the windows, 2 leaks on the upper front cap, and 14 leaks on the roof?recommended a $600 roof seal using ?lap seal?, which fixed the leak. Based on this experience and comments by the roof warranty manager, I would say that Wilsonville Camping World does not manage leaks well.
